Monday 1st June
Dear Class R parents and carers,
Welcome back and I hope you have all had a lovely week and have been able to enjoy the fantastic weather.
This half term we will be continuing to look at animals and will spend the next few weeks focusing on sea creatures and the coast. We are so fortunate where we live that we get to enjoy the seaside and have first hand experiences of the coast and the animals that live there.
Our focus text this week is Eric Carle's 'Mister Seahorse'. Please watch the attached video of the story.
After this could you watch the BBC Bitesize video 'What is an Ocean habitat?' -
I would then like the children to pick one of the creatures from the story and draw a picture of them in their habitat. Can they then label the picture looking for the parts of the creature e.g fin, tail, head, eyes etc.
In Maths this week we are going to be working on spotting, naming and sorting 2d and 3d shapes and also following directions.
Today I would like the children to watch the following clip on BBC Bitesize - 'What are 3d Shapes' -
There is then an attached sheet of 2d and 3d shapes I would like the children to go around the house and outdoors to see if they can find at least one of each of these shapes. They may then choose to write down what they have found and whether it is a 2d or 3d shape. Alternatively they may choose to photograph the things they have found. *Remember Class R - '2d shapes are flat and 3d shapes are fat.' *
After this I would like them to spend a bit of time on phonics play https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3
I would like the children to have a go at the 'Tricky Trucks' to work through recognising the red words. I would like them to try all phase 3 HFW. Remember Class R these are words we need to remember by simply recognising them as they will appear in many of the things we write and read.
After they have done this I would like them to watch the attached video where I list the Set 1 Red Words. Can they try to write down these words. They will need to remember that they cannot segment these words and simply need to see if they can remember how to write them out.
Please look out for the challenge around lunchtime today.
Love Mr B
