Monday 20th April
Dear Class R parents and carers,
I hope you all had a good weekend and were able to enjoy some time together as a family.
This week in Class R we will be continuing to look at our focus text 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and in Maths we will be moving on to looking at counting in 1's and 10's to 100 and counting at least 20 objects.
This morning could you start the day by having a look at https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/116/telling-the-time. This is the game we looked at last week. I would just like the children to refresh their memory on some of the times they were looking at previously. If you worked on reading the time to the hour, perhaps you could move on to looking at some of the other time choices.
After this it would be nice if they could try using materials they find around the home to create their own watch - see attached photos for ideas.
I would then like the children to work on their Number work book, pages 16 to 17. These pages focus on doubling. We have discussed and worked on doubling in class but the children will need support to check that they are correctly working out the double each time. Please see the attached videos for examples on how to double something.
Once they I have done this I would like the children to go around the house and find some matching items and then see if they can record doubles. For example they may find 3 bananas and double them so they need to find 6 bananas in total. If they can photograph the things they find and write down the sum with it that would be great.
I would also like the children to create their own story map of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The story map should not be a full rewrite of the story but purely a way of remembering certain key moments of the text. We use the story maps in school to support retelling a story. Please see the attached photos of my story map to help.
That is quite a lot to be getting on with for the day so please do not feel you have to do everything written down and just pick ones that work best for you.
We will be adding a challenge this afternoon, around lunchtime, so please keep a look out for that.
As previously stated I will be in school this week but will endeavour to continue to respond to emails and Tapestry uploads as soon as possible and Mrs Wyman will also be supporting where possible too.
