Dear Class R parents and carers,

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and were able to spend some time together.

 

I would first of all like to say thank you for all your hard work with your children on their stories last week. I was astounded by the quality of their ideas, drawing and writing. They clearly worked very hard on them and that is evident in the work they produced.

 

This week we will be continuing our theme of looking at wildlife and specifically things we may see in our gardens or on our walks. Over the next few days we will be looking at arachnids and particularly focusing on spiders. The text we will be looking at alongside this is the Eric Carle book 'The Very Busy Spider'. A very appropriate title as we have had some very busy children over the past few weeks. I have attached a video of me reading the story to the children, for them to watch.

 

I would like the children to watch the video and then see if they can create their own spiders web, using materials around the home or garden. If they can create their own spider to add to the web to that would be fantastic.

 

I would also like the children to work on phonics play. Username: march20 Password: home I would like the children to work on the 'Flashcards Time Challenge' - Phases 2 and 3. Please note that some of the children will not have seen all these sounds yet, however it would still be good for them to be introduced to them. After this could they try the 'Dragons Den' game on phase 2 and phase 3? This game encourages the children to practice their blending skills and also recognise real and alien words.

 

Next I would like the children to work on pages 20 to 21 of their Maths book. These pages focus on grouping and sharing, which is the next stage on from their previous work on halving and doubling. Please see the attached video for my example on sharing.

 

Once they have completed their workbook I would like them to try the attached sheet - 'Solving Problems - Sharing'. If you can photograph or video their work on these sheets that would be fantastic.

 

Our focus for Maths throughout the week will be working on pairs with a total of 6 or 7, for example 5 + 1 = 6, 6 + 0 = 6 etc. We will also be looking at subtraction from 6 or 7, e.g. 6 - 5 = 1, 6 - 2 = 4 etc. We will be focusing on correct number formation and recording addition and subtraction sums. It is important that the children practise their number formation as often as possible in preparation for transition into Year 1.
I will be adding some video lessons on this in the coming days.

 

Please note that I am working from home this week so I will be available online if you need any help. Mrs Wyman is in school all this week so will probably not have time to add her challenges. I will therefore be adding challenges around lunch time each day.
