Thursday 11th June
Dear Class R parents and carers,
I hope you have been having a good week so far. The weather has most certainly turned over the past few days and looks set to continue. However it does provide the gardens with some much needed water.
Today I would like the children to start the day by listening to the attached story 'Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale'.
This story is very similar to the story of 'Smiley Shark', where the characters within the book misjudge and misunderstand a different creature and in this case think that the whale is going to hurt them.
After listening to the story I would like the children to create a picture of Rainbow fish and the whale and think of a way to describe what happened. For example 'Rainbow fish and his friends thought the big blue whale would eat all their food. They didn't trust him."
I would like the children to then have a go at creating their own Rainbow Fish and coming up with ways of creating shiny and colourful scales. They could do this in anyway and I would love to see how creative they can be with this.
Following this I would like the children to watch the video 'Animals found living in and around a coral reef' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/znn6n39
I would like the children to then think about how different the coral reef habitat looks compared too some of the other videos we have watched and habitats we have seen. Can the children write a list of all the creatures they remember from the video and use their phonics knowledge to write this out.
In Class R we often spend our Thursday morning PE sessions undertaking yoga. I would like the children to be creative this morning and see if they can come up with there own set of yoga poses related to creatures that live under the sea. I have attached the link to cosmic kids under the sea yoga which will hopefully provide a little bit of inspiration for the children if they are finding it tricky to come up with ideas - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC83oFEeVZA It would be wonderful to see videos or photographs of the ideas the children come up with.
Alternatively I have added the powerpoint 'Under the Sea Yoga Story - The Mermaids Washing Machine' as they may prefer to do this if they are not able to come up with their own poses.
Following this I would like the children to spend a bit of time using their rulers or tape measures to measure a selection of items around the home. I would like them to select a minimum of 6 items and have a go at measuring how long they are. Ideally they will pick a range of items that are smaller than their ruler and some that are large. I would then like them to label the length of these items. Please see the attached video to show how to do this.
Please look out for Mrs Benney's challenge around lunchtime. We have really enjoyed doing them in Class R over the past few days... thank you Mrs Benney!
