Thursday 18th June
Dear Class R parents and carers,
Thank you for sending through so many super updates of all the work your children have been doing at home. I have particularly enjoyed seeing so much wonderful writing over the past few days and the children should all feel extremely proud of themselves.
This morning I would like the children to start the day by selecting one of the attached 'Lighthouse Facts Powerpoints'. Can you then read this to / with them; afterwards I would like the children to come up with their own fact poster about lighthouses. I would like them to think of 4 things they have learnt about lighthouses and write these down on their poster.
*Please note that each of the powerpoints vary in the amount of information they contain. Lighthouse Facts 1 has a smaller number of facts / information in comparison to Lighthouse Facts 3. I would suggest you have a brief look at these and see which you feel would best suit your child.*
I have also attached the link for information on Smeaton's Tower in Plymouth, this includes photographs and information relating to the lighthouse on the Hoe, which is certainly worth looking out for if you visit Plymouth with your children. Your children may choose to make their poster about this local landmark.
After this I would like the children to think about Fred, Tom and Bert (the seagulls) and an adventure they may have. In our story 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch' we saw them visiting Mr Grinling each day and stealing his food from the basket and also teasing Hamish. I would like the children to think of something the seagulls would do during the day, were they not to visit Mr Grinling. The children do not need to write a whole story for this but instead they may like to draw some pictures and label what the seagulls do. Alternatively they may choose to create a story map telling the story of the seagulls' day.
After this I would like the children to have a go at the 2do 'Counting to fill a ten and 20 frame' located on Purple Mash. This activity involves the children working out how many more dots they need to add to the dots on the page to equal the total amount.
Following this can the children try the attached powerpoint 'Worksheet on Lighthouses'. Please note that this does not need to be printed off as they can write down their answers on a separate sheet. Please also note that the children will need to listen carefully to the questions in order to answer them.
Mrs Benney will be adding a challenge this morning so please do look out for that.
