Tuesday 23rd June

Dear Class R parents and carers,

What a scorcher it was yesterday and a nice change after the rain we had over the weekend.

It was fantastic to see so many of you sending the things that had been done across to me yesterday and it was lovely to see so many children coming up with their own fitness routine. I went through and looked at them all yesterday evening and I am looking forward to showing the children in school what you have been doing and we will be trying these today 😊

Today I would like the children to start the day by thinking about our story from yesterday 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Picnic'.

Can they consider the characters from the story and write a list of all the characters they can remember from the story. Remember to use phonics knowledge to help with spelling these words. After writing their list of characters I would like the children to think about which is their favourite character in this story and why? Can they write a sentence to describe why they like the character. Don't forget letter formation, finger spaces and full stops.

After this I would like the children to create a poster that helps to advertise the village picnic. Think of the things that happen in the story e.g. 3 legged race, egg and spoon race, picnic food etc. Can the children think of some fete's or summer fayre's they might have been to in the past, what other things could they add to their poster?

After this I would like the children to watch the video 'Hot air balloon festival'  What do they notice about the balloons? What makes them float? What different colours can they see? Are all the balloons the same shape and size?

Next could the children explore the game 'Coins Game' by following the link  There are three sections that the children can choose from 'sorting', 'ordering' and 'counting'. I would like them to spend a bit of time having a go at some of these games.

Following this I would like the children to work on their Maths books - pages 25 - 27, titled 'Money Problems'

After this I have set a 2do on Purple Mash. In this 2do the children need to play pairs where you match the written value of money with the picture of the coin or note.

Please note that Mrs Benney will be setting a challenge later in the morning so please look out for this.

Kindest regards

Mr B
