Red Cross Summer of Kindness

The summer holidays are fast approaching and things might look a little different this year in light of COVID-19.

To support children and young people and to help keep them entertained we are continuing with our kindness calendar.  New, quick activities will be emailed to you on a weekly basis. The activities will encourage simple acts of kindness, build resilience and include topics like mental wellbeing, loneliness and help children and young prepare for the return to school. Activities are perfect for 7 to 18 year olds, but some might be suitable for younger learners.

Free summer of kindness pack

Sign up to receive a free digital pack which will contain:

1. Kindness calendar

Use the blank calendar to record learnings and daily kindness acts. Print it off and display it around the home so the whole family can get involved.

2. Supporting activities

You will also receive a series of ideas to accompany the calendar. These are short activities that are easy to setup and will be a mixture of online and offline ideas. They will help learners share their kindness with others, learn new skills and help develop their mental wellbeing ahead of  the return to school.

3. Certificate of learning

A British Red Cross certificate which can act as a record of their summer of learning.

Sourcing Summer Childcare -

Parents will be able to find out what childcare will be available on the Pinpoint Site. If at that time they cannot find the childcare they  need they can complete the Unable to Find Childcare Form and the Early years team will then arrange for one of our team to contact them.  Updated information on those settings that will be open in the Summer holidays will also be posted on the Devon County Council website soon.  Please note this is parent funded provision.

Below is a list of childcare provision that has confirmed they will be making an offer over the summer holidays.  Please note that this was accurate at the time of publishing, however DCC cannot provide information on spaces available and parents will need to contact providers directly.

Barnardo’s ‘See Hear Respond’ service

See Hear Respond is a service provided across England by Barnardo’s and other national and local community-based organisations in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The programme has been created to help children and young people in England who are experiencing harm and increased adversity during this period by providing support to those who are not being seen by social care or other key agencies.

Working with its partners, Barnardo’s aims to reduce the likelihood of harm and ensure other support and protective networks are in place using:

  • online digital support, including advice and information, online counselling and a telephone helpline

  • face to face interventions, such as support for groups at risk outside the home and one to one support

  • reintegration into education, including assessments and the delivery of support pathways back to education

See Hear Respond accept referrals from any source either through the Freephone number 0800 151 7015 and via the online referral hub.
